Poll: Help Us Choose Our Next Theme
Ahhh! The sound of a productive team is wonderful to the ears. The AppThemes lead team is making great progress on Vantage. Andrzej is doing fantastic work on ClassiPress 3.2. And we’re finalizing designs for the release of our ideas theme.
The lead developers are getting so much work done on Vantage that it’s time for management to start thinking about our next theme. That begs the question, “What should be next for AppThemes?”
Your Chance to Decide
Who better to put this question to than you? That’s right, our loyal customers and supportive community members. This is your chance to tell us what you want next. What theme have you been longing to have?
We checked out our ideas exchange to come up with the most popular theme ideas. Read the short summaries and then vote in the poll below. If you don’t see the theme you want, why not tell us about it in the comments.
Daily deals are widely popular among consumers these days and the industry is growing exponentially each year. Offer one-day or group deals at huge discounts. Allow membership and deliver deals daily via email, social networks and RSS feeds. This theme might be able to work as a deals aggregator, too.
The online auction industry is about millions of little niches. You likely concentrate a lot of your time on one or two niches that you really love. You could leverage that enthusiasm into creating an auction (or reverse-auction) site where like-minded people offer and bid on items that they are just as passionate about.
Review sites are a pretty great thing. They attract shoppers that are ready to make a purchase but just need a little reassurance that they are spending their money wisely. A smartly developed reviews theme would help you generate attractive and SEO-friendly review content. A price comparison feature would make it even more compelling for cash-in-hand shoppers.
Pinboards are the biggest online craze these days. Nothing is growing faster or generating more buzz on the internet. A pinboard theme would help you get in on the trend.
It surprised us that this is one of the most popularly requested themes on our ideas exchange. And why not? Everyone’s looking for love. Charge a price to allow singles to create a profile, communicate with romantic prospects and post regular updates about their dating adventures.
This theme could have dual purposes. It could serve as a booking tool for small hotels and motels. It could also be a central vacation and rentals site for multiple properties like VRBO and AirBNB. Charge property owners to list their rental and accept reservations.
How many people search for how-to articles or tutorials every day? The number must be mind-boggling. A how-to theme would help you tap into that traffic. Accept user generated content or create your own. We’d make sure this theme had a ton of advertising space.
It seems like every shop has a real estate theme but perhaps it’s time for a real estate theme done the AppThemes way.
Maybe you just want to sell stuff online and need a reliable store front and shopping cart to make it happen. Should we create a theme to help you do that?
When we released QualityControl, many people asked, “Why?” We agree that it’s not like our other themes but we have had a lot of great feedback about QualityControl. Maybe we need to focus on more productivity tools for our next themes. Possibilities: wiki theme, Q&A theme, a support theme, CRM. How about an enterprise social networking theme?
Maybe we shouldn’t focus on new themes. Should we try to extract some of the functionality of our themes in plugins? Should we create plugins for bbPress or BuddyPress?
Vote Now!
We know it can be tough to decide, so pick your top three favorites. Also, we don’t want you to be influenced by vote results so we’re keeping them hidden. We’ll reveal the final tally later. And don’t just vote, tell us what’s on your wish list in the comments below.

I would love to see some child themes and plugins and additional features for the Clipper Theme. Make what you already have awesome instead of spreading yourself too thin…
I would rather go to a restaurant with a 1 page menu that served awesome food and great customer service, then to go to a place with a huge menu and just ok food…
Make clipper a cashback coupon site and it would be unique, only 3 of those.
I wanna see new upgrades for Vantage. I really need this 🙁
Been looking for a good Magazine-style how-to theme with support for not just posting long and short articles, but also galleries.
Currently, Wp do not have support for the kind of galleries available on other platforms, so anything you guys can do in this area will be good for the commuity.
Take a look at my site (http://liuxbsdos.com), for example. I post long/short articles with lots of images. What I’d like to have, is a theme with an integrated gallery feature that makes it possible to post galleries of the type shown at http://nivo.dev7studios.com/demos/4/, such that each view of an image will come with a page refresh. Think page views – that is a major factor in site rankings.
Before you guys make your final decision, think about this: How many people are going to start or already have an auction theme, real estate theme, deals theme or any other niche website?
Now, think about this: How many general websites are out there that need a good, magazine-style theme with a great gallery feature?
Mags and galleries seem to be abundant from my angle. That is why I think Appthemes, aptly named, concentrates on sites with interactive/revenue generating features.
You’re exactly right, Carson. Although it might be nice to create a magazine theme. It would be much so easier to create and support. Whew! Not to worry. We’re not changing our tune anytime too soon. We’ll still be turning out the best application themes for some time to come. Thanks for recognizing.
Well, how about a quotation theme? a powerful wordpress theme to create a quotation site something like quotesdaddy, worldofquotes or thinkexist.com. With ability to create user accounts and user can bookmark their favorite quotes, and can print a PDF book of his favorite quotes, later. User can also submit his own quotes from his dashboard, user can follow a particular author, quotes category or type. Also user can make easily print quotes on attractive bookmark designs, photo frame templates, upload his own image and more.
I am interested in this kind of theme and the most amazing part is that there is not even a single app theme for creating a Quotation site on WordPRess.
make your themes mobile friendly please
I mentioned this before but there is a real need in the market for City Guides, Vacation Guides type websites. A theme that is designed to create a “Guide” type website would be a real hit. There are only a few out there like City Guide, GeoPlace and GeoTheme; all of which focus more on businesses rather than Points of Interest (POI), attractions or locations. I’m building a website for locating historical markers in the state of Iowa and none of the current themes do a very good job. Vantage has the potential to be a great app in this area and I believe it would be very popular.

To take inspiration from this vantage http://www.guidapsicologi.it/ Excellent directory
I suggest a multi-vendor E-Commerce theme too, like the system used in ixxocart.com with joomla.
Somehing like Sodahead com
a sort of polls magazine (for public opinion about anything)
A script like this one don’t exist.
Please create a dating theme. I don’t want to have to try to modify Mingle or Buddypress.
Etsy-style e-commerce functionality would be cool.
My First Choice is Auction theme
2. Q&A Theme
3. Dating Theme
Please give us some thing new…. communication theme “Chat theme”
How would a reviews and price comparison theme differ from vantage? The thing is, so many of these themes have overlapping functions. Most of your existing themes are good, but not great because they’re lacking in customization and any features other than the basics. This is why I’m hesitant to make a purchase at the moment. I think plugins would be great because they would be applicable across all themes, and I am sure integrating buddypress or it’s corresponding functions is imperative for current and potential customers in the near future if not already. Maybe you could also create some kind of drag and drop feature for convenience reasons.
