Making JobRoller an Even Better Job Board Theme
With all the buzz about Vantage these days, it might be hard to notice that we have been working diligently on our other themes as well. In fact, one of our New Year’s resolutions was to release a new update for ClassiPress, JobRoller and Clipper once per month. I’m happy to say, we haven’t faltered on that resolution yet.
We just released JobRoller 1.5.4 – that’s five updates in the last five months! We’ve made incredible progress with the theme in that time period. Our once sizable ticket list has just a handful of open issues. We feel that JobRoller is stronger and more stable than it’s ever been – and now it’s time to take it to the next level.
Indeed, Simply Hired and More
The Indeed feed has been a great feature for JobRoller. 1.5.4 makes even more use of the Indeed feed data. You are now able to use and display Indeed data in ways that simply were not possible in the past.
As good as Indeed has been, we’ve heard your cries for more. That’s why we are working on a Simply Hired feed. Expect to see that available as a plugin for JobRoller by late spring of this year. Indeed and Simply Hired are just the start. If there is a feed out that there that is worth having, we’ll be looking to add it to JobRoller.
Your Ideas + Our Job Board Software = Huge Success!
Admittedly, there are a ton of great ideas on the AppThemes ideas exchange. We’re reviewing the list and we will be incorporating some of the most popular ideas in the near future. Obviously, job alerts is the overwhelming favorite and we’ll be adding that feature soon. We can’t add everything to the theme at once, but you will start to see more and more of your ideas in JobRoller in the coming months.
Tell Us More
The ideas exchange is great for sharing feature suggestions but it doesn’t tell us the whole story. We want to hear directly from you. What is it like to use JobRoller? What are the good things – what are the bad? Are you a recruiter? Are you a corporation that uses JobRoller to list open positions?
If you think you have a story worth telling, drop an email to me at sdunn@appthemes.com. I want to talk to you!
Bruno Makes it All Possible
All the recent progress on JobRoller is the result of the hard work done by Bruno Carreço. Many of our customers may know Bruno as Sebet in the forums and as the creator of the FXtender plugin for JobRoller. Bruno was doing a lot of work with JobRoller and offering invaluable help to many of our customers. We thought it was a no-brainer to make him part of the team.
Bruno has been working with us for a few months now. He is the dedicated developer for JobRoller and responsible for maintaining the theme, creating new features and helping the support staff with customer issues and questions. Bruno will also be helping to create new tutorials and documentation. With Bruno on board, JobRoller is going to be better than ever.
Good People Making Good Things for Good Themes
We’re not the only ones hard at work on our themes. There is a growing community of developers that are making products that work with our themes. As mentioned above, Bruno offers the FXtender plugin which extends some of the capabilities of JobRoller. TinyGiant studios is another great source for JobRoller add-ons, They create a very attractive child theme called Prima. They also have a couple of plugins worth looking at: TypeRight and Count.
We will be promoting more plugins and child themes for all our themes. We can’t put everything into a single application theme. These “after-market” products take it up a notch and give you, the customer, the options to expand JobRoller even further. Let these developers know that you want more products like these by checking out their current products now.
Don’t Forget to Talk to Us
Seriously, we want to hear from you. Send an email and tell us your experience. We’d love to hear it.
Thanks and here’s to our mutually beneficial success.

I thought with full confidence that Bruno will be a part of AppThemes Development Team when i purchased the fxtender pro plugin.
We are really happy to have a dedicated developer with great theme company like AppThemes.
Thanks, Chikkala. Bruno is, most definitely, a great addition to the team.
Hi Appthemes team,
I am very happy to hear this and (to me) Jobroller is the best job board available.maybe there is a lack of functions, but it is growing very fast, and this is the most important thing, When You have backup from a tallented guys like a team like yours, certainly You would feel relax.
And YES Bruno is the best guy for this job and the right person to take care of jobroller.
And since that annoucement,I think Appthemes team became from strong to stronger
For Jobroller itself, and as web designer, I feel I can do anything with it, it is so flexible, and I can put all my imaginations and inspirations the way I want. Hence, More Premium childthemes aer about uncovered.
Thank You so much for such theme.
Keep the heads up guys
Rahim
Thanks for the kind words, Rahim. We encourage people to create child themes for JobRoller and all our themes. It provides more options for our customers and allows AppThemes to focus on making great application themes.
Great work guys – looking forward to your continued progress in 2012!
It may be late in the game to ask this question but is it possible to charge job seekers to post their resume, in JobRoller?
If so, I’d like to have a feature where employer in a given category instantly receive a notice that a new resume has been posted.
This would create productive activity in the job site.
Charging for resumes is a logical way to build a database of people who -really- want to work and for employers, this is worth a lot.
Thanks for the suggestion, Claude. Can I ask you to add this to our ideas exchange? The ideas exchange was recently revamped. We will be more active in responding to suggestions and quicker to implement the ideas with the most votes.
@Shannon, it would be nice if we could filter ideas by categories and statuses. For example, right now I can’t see what are the ideas that are “under review” for jobroller only.
Gabriel, you seem to have multiple personalities – or we have two Gabriel Subbas. We’re still tinkering with the ideas exchange. We’ll be sure to allow for the kind of filtering you describe. Thanks.
Shannon, no multiple personalities I assure you 🙂
I am always so excited about Job Roller that in my excitement I forgot to login and posted a few comments using the comment form. LOL. Thanks for taking my suggestions on the filtering into consideration, I feel it’ll be helpful when the idea bank becomes larger and larger.
We’ll take all the excitement you want to give. And thanks so much for the very detailed feedback on the new Job Packs idea.
I am a fan and a customer for jobroller and with sebet on board, it will soar. 🙂 I look forward to both our businesses growing in an unprecedented manner.
Keep the good work and Hello from Portugal to the new Bruno Carreço Member Team!
BTW, the dashboard for job roller still shows version 1.5.3. I know its minor but just letting you know. I’m glad two bugs I reported are fixed as well.
Bruno, glad you are in the team and I am sure Job Roller will soar to greater heights because of you.
Thanks, Gabriel. We already noticed the version error and created a ticket to correct it. I am also glad that two bugs that you reported were fixed. We aim to please.
Hey Shannon,
Thanks for the kind words about our products; We’re currently developing a second child theme and hope to release it in the next few weeks. We’ve learnt quite a few lessons from our first one, with the new one sporting a leaner (and dare I say, meaner) look.
If anyone is keen to take a look at some screenshots, you can visit these links:
Wow! Those look great Ryan. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see the finished theme.
Heh – you and me both 😉
Bruno is really a great resource. He is a talented, dedicated and kind developer who has helped so many solve problems with his skill and can do attitude.
This is great news!
Awesome – Keep it up! Very convenient with auto-updates.
Shannon,
• There should be a ‘Featured Employer’ section somewhere above-the-fold, as this is standard fare for the vast majority of professional job boards
• Featured Employers would then get their own page comprising a brief business profile along with an aggregate of all their currently active job listings
• If JobRoller had this function, I’d buy it today!
Nice ideas Gaffer. I just checked the ideas exchange and it looks like we have a request for featured employer in the sidebar ( http://ideas.appthemes.com/jobroller/featured-employers-sidebar-widget-1684 ). We also have a couple of requests for publicly facing employer profile pages. When you have a few minutes, perhaps you can vote up these ideas. These should be very strong considerations for us.
… I tried voting but you’re requested to log in & I’m not an existing customer.
Anyhow, I look forward to seeing this feature in the future. Can you give any indication as to when the next release of JobRoller will be?
+1
Yes it works for my site very best!
Hi,
I think I read somewhere in the forums or on the blog that there will be an update regarding features such as job alerts, etc.. for JR v1.6 by May 14th, 2012, is this correct?
Yes. This is correct. We had hoped to get it out last week but needed more time to address some issues with job alerts.
Will version 1.6 able to use for a specific country and select state and/or city when searching for jobs as well as posting of jobs.
Any plan allowing users to select and change location(city) like dealsite when browsing for jobs. Niche market and localized.
That is something we are discussing for our all our theme, including JobRoller. I would not expect it in the near future, though.
Hey Shannon, will there be a search widget that goes into the sidebar for the jobroller and 2. I have experienced the FXtender plugin puts a drag on my site. Have you had any other complaints. Thanks
We have had very good feedback about FXtender and have not heard about it slowing performance. You might want to post in the forums to see if others have experienced the same.
There is search on every page in JobRoller so perhaps I’m not understanding what you mean by search widget. Can you explain further?
Hi Samonja,
We’re actually working on a premium sidebar search widget as we speak – hopefully it’ll be done soon. Feel free to get in touch with us if you need more info…
Hey guys when will 1.6 for jobroller will be released.
This week
Such gr8 news about Sebet joing the team. He has been really helpful to me in developing my site and I’m looking forward to seeing more of his work in the coming JR releases. So glad too about email alerts and planning to jump to v156 as soon as it’s released. Does email alerts include job reference numbers and job-tracking for users ? I think these are very important features which are not there at the moment.
