ClassiPress 3.1 Preview
It’s been a while since we’ve released a major feature update to ClassiPress but the good news is there’s one just around the corner. Version 3.1 has been in the works for a while now and will include lots of sought after features.
We actually planned on releasing it a while back but wanted to wait for WordPress 3.0 to first be released so we could benefit from its new features.
The first most noteworthy change will be the usage of WordPress 3.0 custom post types and taxonomies. All ads will now be completely separate from blog posts which makes post and category management much easier.
Other features include:
- Checkbox and radio button custom field types
- New users can create a password on account sign-up
- Tool tip icon added to custom fields on form
- Advanced search which includes radius option
- Custom ads write panel
- Facebook sign-in & account creation module
- Coupon code module
- Ability to mark ads as “sold” and keep them live
- TinyMCE option for each custom textarea field
- Unlimited ad posting for xx days option
- Email sent to ad owner 3 days before ad expires
- Main ad image will be clickable
- Adding Google maps character encoding option
- Report this post feature
- and much more!

Hello David, you will increase the size of the images featured on the carousel? as in http://runninghorses.net/ or http://annonces.caryl.fr/
I would be much better and I think it would be a great job for you.
It could also increase also the size of the Google Map.
I think I would spend little time, little code, most would be of great value to all.
@Tiago, no the image size for the featured ads & the google maps will stay the same.
Could you explain better and in a few words why not make it, spend as little time and my eyes would have a major benefit?

I just have 4 questions –
1. So let me understand, there is no possible way to start a national classified ad website using your script? Again, as I stated earlier, something like olx has – newyork.olx.com, boston.olx.com or losangeles.olx.com. Each city or state has their own dedicated classified ad website, but all anyone needs is just one login, if they need to post to multiple cities. In your opinion, what’s the best option to go national using your script?
2. What about mobile? I have an iPod Touch and I can search, reply, look at pictures, comment by visiting olx at iphone.olx.com. Will it be possible to have people visit my ClassiPress website using their iPhones, iPod Touch or Android phones? Or, is there a plugin that will allow Classipress to be recreated into a mobile version?
3. What about feature ads? Will it be possible to add feature ads to specific categories or cities? A New York Tanning Salon would probably like to advertise on my ClassiPress website, but only for the Tanning category in New York City.
4. What about audio and video? Will there be a way for you to add the uploading of audio and video by users? I’m not talking about embedding, I’m talking about hosting the videos and audio on my own servers, that users upload.
All these features can be options that can be turned off or on.

@Chris, We are targeting release for Oct 8th but Seth our developer was sick which put us behind a bit.
@David. Sorry to hear Seth was under the weather and I hope he is feeling better again. How behind schedule do you ‘guesstimate’ this will put you for the October 8th release?
Software development is, understandably, difficult to schedule deadlines for as we all know. That said, some (many?) of us are planning our projects according to your announcements so please keep us abreast of the latest schedule changes. Thanks and keep up the great work!

It puts us back at least one week and maybe two.
As you stated, software dev is definitely difficult to schedule and we don’t like pushing release dates back any more than you guys do.

The Coupon code module sounds interesting.
WIll this give you a section for coupons, or will it enable you to change the site to a coupon site?
A lot of other great features added here.
@Rick, there will be a new admin option page just like ad packs where you can create coupons for use on ClassiPress.
The drop-and-down window for the selection section is outdated.

@escapet, thanks for the example. We might have something similar to that site. Default html drop-downs are pretty boring for sure. That site is using css instead.
I’m excited for the “Unlimited ad posting for xx days option”.
I’m assuming we will have to use the “fixed price per ad” option to use this? Is there any way to combine this with a “price per category” setup? I’d love to be able to have free ads for certain categories, and offer ad packs for others. I know I can create a free ad pack, but that would apply to every category on my site.
@Mike, the unlimited ads posting will be an ad pack so the price will be dependent on whatever you set there.
David, since you are in a replying mood =) could you give some insight into what the “Advanced search which includes radius option” will entail?
Will this finally give us the ability to support Countries, States and Cities?

Essentially each new ad submission in v3.1 will be tagged with geo coordinates (long & lat). Then the radius search will run a neat little sql query and return all items close by.
How will this affect users searching for ads in a given Country, State/province, city? Will there be a search option for these fields?
what will the view of these search results look like? can it show the user the main menu with the number of listing in each category and subcategory reflecting only listings in that radius?

Another very important thing … please you guys should take any action against those sites who are using this theme illegally , because it’s unfair with YOU and the people who purchase this theme . some sites are distributing this theme free you should contact with them, because it’s not easy for me to purchase this theme if i have a illegal copy, but defiantly i will not use illegal copy of this theme . ( usually i don’t comment on blogs but really i am interested in your products ).

The current version of ClassiPress allows you to create whatever fields you like so cities can be easily done.
Agreed about sites illegally using our products. That holds true for pretty much any type of software out there. Unfortunately there’s not much we can do.
Just curious if there was any update on Vantage? Any screens or release date set. Sorry for being impatience I was hoping to see something maybe in November for this as its something I am in need of badly – but obviously take your time to make it right 🙂

@Sunny, it’s delayed at least a week. Seth our developer got sick and a couple other things slowed us down.
I see in vantage you plan to have locality searches using google maps, will this development be installed in the new version of classipress?
If a local search/filter is not or is going to be implemented can you be clear so I know if I need to have this developed personally? I can see a lot of other people are holding their breath on your word, it’s quite important we know your intentions on this subject for the next release.

@Sam, our radius and advanced search features will be included in pretty much all our themes. It’s just going to be a matter of time.

I don’t suppose you could confirm whether the following will be fixed in 3.1?
The page navigation bug (when searching in a sub-category, the page navigation calculates the number of posts found incorrectly). Also when clicking on the “Random” and “Most Popular” tabs – the page number links revert back to the default “Recent” tab.

First, I hope Seth recovers and gets well. Second, being a developer of software is something very challenging and you can run into many walls. I think you’re doing an excellent job with all the problems that may have occurred behind the scenes, that none of us know about.
David, from what I’m gathering it seems like doing States and Cities similar to olx and craigslist is very challenging on the wordpress platform. That’s fine. If it’s very challenging and you have done everything possible to include States and Cities similar to how olx is setup, but it’s just impossible, I thank you for the effort.

It will not be on the style of olx or craigslist, but it may work well enough that our users will enjoy this way of searching. This is all fine and is something I think I can work with.
David, is it safe to tell my clients that the way users will search by State or City on your ClassiPress site will by “geo coordinates, which will include a radius search?”

I think I am using the latest version of Classipress and finding that it is a superb tool and VERY SE friendly if the right tools are in place!
I would really love to see an increase in the Featured Ad Carousel so that images can be displayed bigger!
There is a ‘fix’ on the forum but is clunky for us ‘non coders’ to implement!!!
How about it? Just a ‘minor’ mod to the .css and Bob’s your uncle…

Is it that we can get a free upgrade for the 3.1 version if I buy the previous theme now? I was also wondering when are you planning to launch the bussines directory theme?
Will there be any event listing functionality? Any listing tying into a calendar, sorted by date etc?

Wait for 3.1 before setting up a new site. Why install 3.04 now and then have to upgrade a couple of weeks later.
yea i stopped working on my site, untill 3.1 is released.
then i will reinstall wordpress and make lot’s of tweaks to make it as fast as possible, and install classipress 3.1 :).

I have been waiting since September 17 for this update. I just hope it is still released this Friday 8th.
I have stopped work on my site until the release. Desperately need to continue as soon as the updated template is available.
