IPN is PayPal’s message service that sends a notification back to ClassiPress (behind the scenes) when a transaction is affected. Unlike “PayPal Website Payments Standard”, no user interaction is required (i.e. click on a return to site button) to complete the transaction. Everything happens automatically. It will also update your transaction logs when events like refunds are given, eCheck payments are completed/denied, etc. Essentially it allows PayPal to push updates directly into your ClassiPress database so you will always have the most up-to-date transaction log. Soon you will be able to offer both PayPal and Google Checkout as payment gateways. This helps expand your global reach since PayPal doesn’t support every country and not everyone has a PayPal account.
