ClassiPress 3.0.4 Upcoming Release Details

Not far behind our previous release comes version 3.0.4 which addresses a couple important bugs. We preferred to wait and fix these in v3.1 which is scheduled for the end of September, but felt these couldn’t wait.

The main bugs fixed in this patch release are as follows:

  • Cron Jobs Not Triggering – Ads were not being correctly expired due to a hard coded table prefix.
  • Ad Editing Resets Values – Some customers were having problems with their ads losing custom field values when editing them.
  • Home Page Sidebar Widgets – Using language packs prevented the home page sidebar widgets from being changed.
  • Child Category Search – Searching a parent category for something that existed in a child category returned no results.
  • Relist Ad Date Issue – Non-standard dates caused an issue with the free ad re-listing process.
  • Child Theme Login Page – Issue where changing the header and footer did not effect the login page.
  • Ad Edit TinyMCE – Editing an ad with HTML enabled was not loading the TinyMCE editor controls.
  • A couple other minor fixes.

As a special gift for not catching these bugs in v3.0.3, we decided to slip in a couple new features that were scheduled for v3.1. These features are mostly related to payment options but also includes a few other “enhancements”.

  • PayPal IPN – It’s finally here! Small Business Edition and higher now includes support for PayPal’s instant payment notification option.
  • Bank Transfer Gateway – All ClassiPress owners can now enable a bank transfer option to allow your customers to wire money into your account.
  • Smart Payment Drop-Down – On the checkout page, the payment option box appeared even if an ad was free. It’s now been moved to step #2 and doesn’t appear at all if the ad total is $0.
  • Favicon Support – Got a favicon image you’d like to use? If not, make your own or shrink an existing image! ClassiPress now automatically detects and uses your favicon. Just drop your .ico in the ClassiPress images folder.
  • WordPress Body Class Tag – Now you can style the body of your site or specific pages by using the dynamic native WordPress body_class() function.
  • Parent Category Classes – If you haven’t seen the demo site recently, check it out. Notice how the parent categories now have nice little icons next to them? This new feature allows you to style them accordingly.

So when should you expect to see v3.0.4? It’s currently locked down in svn and our development team is regression testing. Translation: Everything is fixed and we’re now testing it.

Expect to see it on your customer dashboard for download by this Friday the 13th. Well, maybe we’ll release it on Thursday so we’re not jinxing ourselves. πŸ™‚

Well, assuming we get through QA without any hitches it will be released tonight. Otherwise, it’ll be tomorrow….Friday the 13th.

If you’re superstitious you can wait to download it on Saturday instead. πŸ™‚

Aw darn! Oh well πŸ™‚ I was up until midnight EST waiting LOL! (I was up anyway LOL) Looking forward to getting the new version set up. I hadn’t upgraded my WP to 3.0+ yet, and am still running CP3.0.2 so this is a big step. I have quite a few new integrations I plan on working on.

Please please not on a friday. Sat? yes, thursday, yes. not on friday the 13th

@David: I would love to see some of your components as modules so that we could use them to build the sites we wanna build.

In particular, the pay to post feature set.

You’ve probably gathered from my comments, but I am not a fan of themes which dictate how sites should look and work.

If certain aspects could be isolated and packaged up as stand alone modules, then we would be freer to build some great sites using your plugins.

    Just a thought.

    • author
      David

Actually all the payment gateways are modules. You can easily remove or add new ones by just dropping in the folders in the gateways folder.

The pay to post feature is built in since we don’t get many requests to have them as a separate module.

  • Momin

    awesome!!
Regarding the icons for categories, Can we have icons of any size and can we have icons for sub-category as well?

    • author
      David

Yes, you can currently do that in 3.0.3. Each subcategory has a unique css class which allows you to style it accordingly.

We will be doing a tutorial on how to add category icons later this month.

  • Tiago Baron

It could also increase the size of the ads in focus, putting a filter in the polls as in http://www.postpanda.com/, and a login system on the main page using the Register Plus plugin (Sidebar Dynamics Homepage) as well as in http://cpmodlite.smwphosting.com/ and parent categories in bold.
These are things that I think should be in Classipresss default. If possible make a video tutorial for people like me from other countries, we feel some difficulty at times when doing the automatic translation and does not come out the terms and words well defined or they really want to express. As I’m writing now and can not get out as correct as written and wanted me expressasr.
Of the rest, congratulations Theme ClassiPress Creci and more each day ..
    THANKS David and Seth!

      David

Thanks for your feedback Tiago. Yes, it’s difficult to explain things because of the language barrier but I understand what you are saying.

Good ideas and we will consider them in later versions.

David, does the new v3.0.4 have the option to let the client sell their items up as classified item or just it up for auction? That could be superb.

Simply two boxes for the client to choose whether to auction the item or sell as classified.

    Thanks

    • author
      David

No, there isn’t an option to make their item an auction. You’d have to use an auction theme to do that since ClassiPress is more for classified ad listings.

  • me

why is there no filtering by state/district/town? i wanna look for adverts in london and what? do i have to check every one hoping some will be from the location i want? this is a must to be in next update.

    • author
      David

You can use the search box to find a specific item. It will return the results and include each city, state, etc it’s located in.

With that being said, we are working on a better filtering option so you can restrict results just to specific locations.

  • Andy H

Definitely the best classified theme on the market but I am getting so many people requesting if they can buy more than one ad at a time. Is there a way of allowing this rather the client having to go through the entire paypay process everytime they want to place a few ads at once.

    • customer
      Ramsey Sowers

I have had the same request. I can’t wait until the “feature request” page is set up so we can “vote” on which features we think are important and then the community, as a whole, can dictate on which features are most important!

    • author
      David

Good suggestion Andy. We’d essentially have to build in a shopping cart functionality in order for this to work. I will talk with the team and see what we can come up with.

      • customer
        Seth

Sounds like fun! Or, we could build a “credits” system like stock photo sites usually use where you can purchase XX amount of dollars and it just deducts everything from your account… oh wait I guess that would be harder to program, lets go back and just use the “cart” idea. : )

        • customer
          Shaesta Shams

There’s a wordpress plugin for that.

David, if you could implement this plugin into ClassiPress and enable users to use a deposit system to purchase ads. Might take alot of work.. but doable.

          http://codecanyon.net/item/wordpress-deposit-system/109253

        • Ramsey

I love the credits idea. I’m wondering if it then could be configured so that each ad category could use a different set of credits. That way you could charge more for one category and less for another, but still have ad-packs that are based on a group of days/months.

      • Andy H

Thanks David, that would be fantastic, we are selling affordable advertising and this is the only negative some of my clients have put forward about the software. Adding this just puts he cherry on the top. Great work guys.

Twitter says 3.0.4 has been released but it has not been delivered to the dashboard. Did I miss something? thx

Yes, you can get the latest version by logging into your dashboard. Click on the link of the edition you purchased and it will be 3.0.4.

      • Catalin

        Hi David,

What about customers that bought the script before the launching of new version of site (I mean AppThemes instead of WPClassiPress)? The latest version of script seems that doesn’t appear on their dashboard – any clue to solve this?

Also, what about the commissions generated by script sales on the old system E-Junkie between 01 July and date when your own tracking commissions system was launched? As I know, the commissions generated using old system should have to be paid on 7 in the next month, which was not happened. Will those commissions added to the commissions generated by new system and paid on 15, I mean today?

        Cheers,
        Catalin

        • author
          David

Hi Catalin, If you purchased ClassiPress on the old site, you were automatically migrated to AppThemes. You should have received an email with your login details. Your username will be the email address you used when purchasing CP (your PayPal email address). You can use the forgot your password option on the login page.

Re: commissions, yes any sales done prior the transition to the new site (July 1st – 4th) will be included in your payment tomorrow. The 15th fell on a Sunday so they will be processed tomorrow.

          • Catalin

            Hi David,

Thank you for your answer. The commissions were paid well, thanks!

About the download of 3.0.4 version, it still is not possible, even my AppThemes account name is my e-mail address that was used to do the purchase (small business version of the script, using e-junkie). I am able to download from the e-junkie link the old version 3.0.2, but in my AppThemes dashboard I see the message “You have no active purchases”.

            Cheers,
            Catalin

Problem was solved, thank you! 3.0.4 version is now in my dashboard.

Congrats for PayPal IPN integration, it is very useful!

            All the best,
            Catalin

do you have upgrade instructions about 3.0.4 ?

    • author
      David

Upgrade instructions are essentially the same as 3.0.2 to 3.0.3. You can find those on the install page.

  • Gadget

I want get the last version, give me please..

  • tempoblog

one big question: how can i add little icons to parent categories (v3.0.4)?

  • arty

Any special discount available for new users?)

  • Frederick

    Hi David.

I’m looking at your Class”y”press, considering to buy it. I’m also – as some before me- would like to have a file upload option – to upload pdf . As far is the coupon upload option – also would be nice. On the other hand, I think I can easily make the photo printable (if is a coupon uploaded). I just feel, as a Classified, it should have a PDF upload option (which could be used for Special, Coupon, Menu – other marketing pages)– which can be printable by the user. Many would love this feature. It’s just a PDF -file upload option!?

    Thanks
    Frederick

    • author
      David

There isn’t a coupon upload option with ClassiPress but there will be one in our other theme, Clipper due out next month.

  • N.S

    Hey David,

Best feature to include in your next update is the ability to insert video url’s i.e Youtube, Vimeo etc. Here’s a great example http://www.gumtree.com/london/62/63011762.html (2nd thumnail).

This allows the classifed ad to look more realistic and less fraudulent, and it helps to sell the product better than a picture alone.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Naweed

    • wppete

      Hi,

Yes I agree. would like to see a video embed option like Gumtree. Would really help with the overall look and function.

      Great Work guys.

      Regards

    • customer
      Seth

Actually I ended up building that option as a modification for a client already, so it is possible to use child themes to modify your ClassiPress into allowing a “video upload” tool.

I’m not sure if there are any posts up yet because I just finished deploying the site but you can maybe tell by clicking on the “post an ad” button there is a video URL field in there that automatically embeds videos of many types like you describe.

  • Dom

    David,

Thank you for your continued work on Classipress.

The ability for the user to upload a video and pdf is my client’s biggest need. Another of my clients has users upload items that cost pennies each to sell but users do not want to conduct a separate paypal transaction for every single item. The integrated shopping cart as far as uploading many items before paying for them is a feature I desire.

  • Andy H

David – direct question I know but how realistic is the shopping cart option, I have heard similar comments and personally we are in the same boat, we can’t launch our site without this vital piece of functionality

    • author
      David

It’s realistic but not for at least a month or two. If it was easy, we would’ve added it before.

We’ll bring it up internally in our next product roadmap meeting.

  • pedrox

Version 3.0.4 is available now ?

“Click here to download ClassiPress v3.0.2 – Small Business Edition.
Thank you for your purchase of ClassiPress manuel!”

    • author
      David

pedrox, if you login to your customer account, you will be able to download the latest version from your dashboard.

  • Blueprint

Hello David. How are you? In your next meeting can you please discuss the possibilities of the allowing or uploading of video, pdfs, audio, adding shopping carts, the allowing of a paypal button or google checkout button next to a users product, the ability to have a digital product delivered and can be downloaded to a customer once he or she has paid and more. These new features would be for ClassiPress.

All my clients would love these options. Hopefully, the AppThemes staff can make this happen.

Thanks so much David for your continued great work!

    • customer
      Shaesta Shams

I think this should be aimed at an ecommerce theme instead. All the features you mentioned doesn’t exactly fit with the aim of ClassiPress which is a classified ads marketplace, where you advertise products and services.

I’ve been reading all the comments here and it seems to me everyone wants 100+ features in one existing theme.. that’s not fair for other themes such as JobRoller which may have unique parts.

So I recommend you guys to suggest ideas for new themes here rather than over extending existing ones.

      • author
        David

Shaesta, you are correct. Different themes serve different purposes and not every theme fits exactly one business.

Keep all the suggestions coming though. We love to hear your ideas!

    • author
      David

Hi Blueprint, thanks for your suggestions. Those are all good ideas but are more specific to a shopping cart or ecommerce theme (which we plan to release as a separate theme at a future date).

  • robert

lots of great info here, especially for soon to be purchasers like myself. i agree, many of these requests seem to be more consistent with an e-commerce script rather than a classified but script. but that’s to be expected i would think given that, amazingly, a wp classified script such as cp is about the only interesting option available for someone interested in a multi-vendor, e-commerce solution… wpmu, magento, xcart, iboutique, etc., etc. just don’t cut it imo. with the enormous success and popularity of etsy, one would think there would be many wp, php, joomla, etc. quality multi-vendor store options out there, but there aren’t. but, oddly, you can sort of back into it using a classified script. anyway, as far as requests are concerned, how about a “best offer” feature? this would make sense for a classified scipt, no?

  • singapore web design

When can we expecting the sorting function on the result listing page? This is pretty important for the user usability wise.

  • Aaron

    Hi David,

Was wondering if there was an option to have social sharing buttons on each classified post or is it something webmasters have to customize into the theme?

From the few examples I have seen, I haven’t seen a facebook share and twitter tweet buttons on the posts. I think this would be great to integrate into the theme options and would be very popular in certain niches.

    • author
      David

Hi Aaron, you can use plugins for social sharing buttons but we’ll probably build it into a later version of CP like we did for JobRoller.
